How to you increase web traffic to your website?

I have been doing the normal things like participating in forums, yahoo answers, submitting to directories but I am having problems with this because i cant find much free ones. I don't quite understand link building just yet and I still have to create a site map to resubmit to google. Any suggestions?

1. Write and submit articles . It is a classic, but it works. This will create traffic for years to come. Write quality unique articles, not articles that are regenerated or provide no insight to readers, which is a huge problem these days.

2. Submit ads to a high pagerank and high traffic Classified ad site such as USFreeads.

3. Make sure to view related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.

4. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.

5. Review some related products on epinion.

6. If you purchase a product that you actually like, then feel free to give an individual respect when respect is due and leave a testimonial. You should be able to get some traffic from that website if your testimonial is left with a url.

7. Whenever you send an email to someone, include your website url as a signature.

8. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week, if not twice.

9. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites. Sign up to Onlywire.

10. Add pictures to your blog with appropriate keywords.

1) add your site to as many search engine listings as you can find, ie http://uk.search.yahoo.com/freesubmit/submit

2) make sure you add meta tags to your website (key words which you list then when people search for those keywords your site will come up in the results) - all part of SEO - search engine optimisation

3) put your website address on all your business stationary - letterheads, invoices, compliments slips, delivery slips, envelopes, parcel packaging, business cards etc etc

4) promote your website by adding it to your email signature on both business and personal emails

5) join as many social networking sites as you can ie hi5, bebo, tagged, facebook, myspace, yahoo 360 etc and add your web address in your profile or notice boards etc

6) add yourself to online directories who give free listings ie http://www.yelldirect.com/freelisting/home.html

7) get some stickers made for your car, and window stickers made for car windows of friends, family, customers etc

8) PR is always a good move, ask your local paper(s) to run a feature, get your business start-up story on business sites like http://newbiztips.net/startupstories.aspx

Where does all my website traffic go?

I have a website which tracks the number of visitors I get monthly. I can see the traffic goes there, but is apparently diverted because I NEVER get sales.
It is a replicated site which general search engines usually pre-identify and avoid unless a person types exactly into the browser…which is the way most of my traffic gets routed (WOM-Word of Mouth). Because "I" did not build the site, I don't know what the MetaTags are. I know the ones I assigned for my personalized Yahoo referral URL.

It sounds like someone has “hacked” your site to draw off your visitors. Ask friends and family to go to your website and tell you if any strange links appear which are “stealing” your visitors. If not, you have to change what you are selling or change the prices until you get more sales..

You need to advertise where your customers or possible customers are. You need to tell people locally that you exist and what you have to offer. The web is just your showcase, getting people to see that showcase is the challenge! Perhaps you can advertise on the local radio station? Good luck!
